102816 OLHTHOMASVILLE — Parishioners at Our Lady of the Highways Church gathered Sept. 25 for the parish’s annual celebration of Our Lady of the Highways Day.

Our Lady of the Highways Day started in 1989 after a suggestion from Sister Lucy Hennessy, SMG, who in addition to being administrator of Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point also taught the parish’s fourth-grade faith formation class.

She felt that the parish children were missing out by not having a celebration in honor of the feast day for the parish’s patron, the Blessed Virgin Mother.

Over the years that followed, Our Lady of the Highways Day has evolved into a grand celebration for parish members and friends. The weather was perfect and everyone enjoyed the day.
