Immaculate Conception readies for 100th anniversary

Dan Schutte concert among  festivities planned

HENDERSONVILLE — Immaculate Conception Church in Hendersonville is celebrating its centennial anniversary this month, and two special events are planned.

"An Evening with Dan Schutte" will be presented on Friday, Aug. 10, in the main church, organized by the parish's music ministry. The 7 p.m. concert is free, with donations taken up during the event.

Schutte is the famed Catholic composer of contemporary hymns including such favorites as "Blest be the Lord," "Here I Am, Lord," "Sing a New Song," and "You Are Near."

Immaculate Conception Church will officially mark its 100th anniversary on Aug. 25 with a bilingual Mass celebrated by Bishop Peter J. Jugis, starting at 5 p.m.

Bishop Jugis will also officially install Immaculate Conception's new pastor, Capuchin Franciscan Father Martin Schratz.

A cake, coffee, and punch reception will follow the liturgy in the gymnasium of Immaculate Conception School.
