New Director of Diaconal Formation named for Diocese of Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Deacon Scott Gilfillan has been appointed by Bishop Peter J. Jugis as Director of Formation for the Permanent Diaconate in the Diocese of Charlotte effective Jan. 1, 2012.

Deacon Scott graduated from Clemson University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in engineering. He and his wife Kimberly make their home in Conover, close to St Joseph Church in Newton where he is assigned as permanent deacon. Ordained by Bishop Emeritus William G. Curlin on June 23, 2001, he has been serving as Assistant Director of Formation.

He succeeds Deacon George Szalony, who resigned to focus more time on his ministry as airport chaplain at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
