SALISBURY — Students in Julia Brown’s seventh-grade physical science class at Sacred Heart School blasted off their model rockets on April 4, an event they had prepared for the entire year.
After almost three academic quarters of learning about chemical reactions, matter, forces and energy, they were finally able to take the matter into their own hands by applying the lessons learned to engineer their own force of gravity - a model rocket.
“We prepared for the model rockets with some research and practice with straw rockets and stomp rockets,” Brown said. “Once they have a good idea of what made a rocket successful and how good they were at building, they were able to choose a model rocket kit to build.”
Students took their handcrafted rockets specialized with their own designs, names and colors and launched them while the whole student body, teachers and some interested parents looked to the skies to see just how high they could travel.
It was a reported blast! The sky's the limit with this seventh-grade class!
