CHARLOTTE — For the third year Our Lady of the Assumption School students have participated in the Young Author’s Project. This year’s theme is “Beacons of Light Shining Towards a Brighter Future."

The competition, which has art and writing components, is open to pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students.

Nine students made it to the finals: Monica Bernal, Thy Tran, Saulo Sosa, Shilo Kangauka, Stefan Selemun, Dimitri Pappas, Alina Ruiz-Villalobos, Batel Kassahun, and Colette Kojis.

Bernal, Tran, Selemun and Pappas won at the Cabarrus County level, while Tran and Pappas were also state winners. The school participates through the Greater Cabarrus Reading Association.
