When I’m out shopping in November, and I hear the strains of “Silver Bells” and “The Little Drummer Boy” wafting from hidden store speakers, I just want to cover my ears. The ever-present repetition of Christmas carols often serves to point out that the rest of the world is celebrating Christmas, while we’re still in the season of Advent.
This is a beautiful time of year when many people, regardless of spiritual or religious beliefs, take time to reflect on what they have to be grateful for. Even those who are suffering through hard times or illness will strive, at least for the holiday season, to list a few blessings in their lives and to give thanks for them.
