CHARLOTTE — The Mint Museum Randolph is hosting a special celebration of Epiphany, also known as Three Kings Day or El Dia de los Reyes, 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4.
Epiphany commemorates the visit of the Wise Men or Magi to the infant Jesus. For many Catholics, particularly in Latin American traditions, this major holiday marks the end of the Christmas season.
The celebration coincides with the ongoing display of “Art of Devotion: The Santos de Paulo Tradition of Puerto Rico,” an exhibit of 150 traditional wooden saint statues crafted in Puerto Rico from the larger collection of Francisco Toste Santana and Nitza Mediavilla Pinero.
The couple moved to Charlotte from their native Puerto Rico several years ago and have been collecting the traditional figures for more than 50 years. “Art of Devotion” will be on display at the museum through July 5, 2026.
Three Kings Day events include performances by a children’s choir and a Latin American band, plus a chance to sample international variations of Three Kings’ Day treats such as rosca de reyes (Three Kings’ bread), galette de rois (king cake) and guava pastilles (guava pastries).
There will also be interactive crafts and games, including a scavenger hunt in the Santos del Palo exhibit, and a chance to craft your own Three Kings figures.
Admission is free.
