100719 pet blessingSHELBY — St. Mary Help of Christians held a Blessing of the Animals on Oct. 4 in front of the statue of St. Francis of Assisi.

Father Michael Kottar and Deacon James Trombley began the service with reading of the scriptures, followed by prayer and blessing of individual pets. Father Kottar also related anecdotes and stories concerning the life and ministry of St. Francis of Assisi and then proceeded to the individual blessing of the animals present.
