GREENSBORO — Has someone you love abandoned the Catholic faith?
Don’t lose hope. Mark your calendar for a powerful Mass of faithful persistence with Bishop Michael Martin. The Mass will be offered at 6:30 p.m. on the Feast of St. Monica, Aug. 27, at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Greensboro.
“My hope for this Mass is that Bishop Martin will provide additional hope and encouragement to persist in prayer like St. Monica for our loved ones who have left the faith,” said Amy Voss, St. Paul the Apostle parishioner and one of the founders of the first Millions of Monicas chapter in the diocese.
Millions of Monicas is a national organization of mothers who come together in local chapters to pray for their children and relatives who have fallen away from the Catholic faith.
Millions of Monicas women meet each week for an hour. They are aunts, mothers, grandmothers, friends and even spouses. They don’t share circumstances, details or even last names, just prayers, love and support. Yet, they all have something they wish they didn’t have in common: a loved one who abandoned the faith.
The name of the group comes from St. Monica, who fervently prayed and fasted for more than 17 years for the conversion of her son – now known as St. Augustine of Hippo – husband and mother-in-law. Her story exemplifies the power of prayer and patience. Like the saint, Millions of Monicas continue to spiritually battle for loved ones while providing healing to the women who are awaiting their return.
A local chapter of the national ministry started in 2023 with around 50 members at St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Greensboro, and it since has spread to Our Lady of Grace in Greensboro, Sacred Heart in Salisbury, St. Mark in Huntersville, Holy Family in Clemmons and St. Mary in Greensboro.
Come start a journey of healing, surrender and prayer, while patiently keeping the light on in wait for your loved one to return.
