CHARLOTTE — Faithful across the Diocese of Charlotte gathered Sunday, Oct. 4, to kick off Respect Life Month and form Life Chains as a public witness to the dignity of all human life.
“Our united prayers, sacrifices and efforts to protect human life and heal the wounds inflicted by abortion remain as important as ever,” said Bishop Daniel E. Thomas – Bishop of Toledo, Ohio, and chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities – earlier this year. “Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to ensure that every human life may be protected in law and welcomed in love, and that abortion may be unthinkable.”
In the Diocese of Charlotte, Father John Putnam opened the annual Life Chain Sunday at St. Mark Church in Huntersville praying “may His Lordship to watch over the life chain. We ask you to bless us and may our witness be true and faithful and may it be the instrument in which hearts are changed.”
More than 80 people prayed along Stumptown Road. Father Christopher Angermeyer and Father John Cuppett also prayed with the group. Deacon Tom Martin and his wife Heather also lead the Rosary.
Around the diocese, many lined busy streets to witness for life.
