021717 ic parishionerFOREST CITY — Missionaries of Charity Sister Mary Catherine of Siena, a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church before entering the religious order founded by St. Teresa of Calcutta, has been named house superior of her community’s new monastery in Oulu, Finland.

The Missionaries of Charity Contemplative monastery was consecrated Dec. 12, 2016, by Bishop Teemu Jyrki Juhani Sippo of Helsinki. The Missionaries of Charity are the first Catholic nuns in the north of Finland.

020917 cardinal pcjCOLUMBUS, OH — His Emminence Raymond Cardinal Burke celebrated Mass Feb. 8 at the Pontifical College Josephinum.

Charlotte Deacons Christopher Bond, Christian Cook and Matthew Bean assisted the cardinal at Mass on the feast of St. Jerome Emiliani.

The Josephinum was honored by an unofficial visit from Cardinal Burke, who was in Columbus for a pro-life medical ethics conference at The Ohio State University.

CHARLOTTE — The Diocese of Charlotte’s High School Lenten Retreat will be held March 17-19 at Camp Valley Haven in Hickory. “Behold Your Mother,” taken from John 19:27, is the theme for this year’s weekend retreat being organized by the diocesan Youth Ministry office.

Through prayer, games, confession, talks and more, participants will take the time to reflect and learn more about the Blessed Virgin Mary and her role as Mother of the Church.
