CHARLOTTE — More than 20,000 faithful took to the streets of uptown Charlotte to process and pray during the 13th Eucharistic Congress Sept. 9.
Officials estimate this was the largest Eucharistic Process to date, with more than 20,000 participants.
The Eucharistic Procession, in which Bishop Peter J. Jugis carried a monstrance containing a consecrated host – the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ – was a highlight of the two-day Eucharistic Congress that opened Friday night, Sept. 8.
As is tradition, this year’s First Communicants led the procession and groups from parishes carried banners through the streets on a mile-long path from Tryon Street to Stonewall Street, into the Charlotte Convention Center. The procession concluded with a Holy Hour inside the convention center.
