CHARLOTTE — Students at Our Lady of the Assumption School kicked off their summer reading fun Wednesday with six free books of their choice, thanks to St. Gabriel parishioner, Theresa Moritz, with the help of Promising Pages, a Charlotte-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing books to kids in need.

Moritz, a tutor with students in the lower elementary school, organized other volunteers from St. Gabriel Parish in Charlotte to join her in tutoring OLA students.

During the school year, a student shared with a tutor that they had no books at home to practice reading.

Moritz connected with Promising Pages to provide books for the students.

Each student also received a copy of Jordan Raynord’s “The Creator in You,” which retells the story of God’s creation of Man in the Biblical account of Genesis, and encourages kids to make, model, and work like Him.
