Mission of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Winston-Salem

Our Lady of Fatima Chapel was established in 1954 to serve a large influx of Western Electric employees who relocated from New Jersey. Located on the corner of Third and Cherry streets, it is a small gray brick building originally built in the early 1900s as the city’s first public library. An influx of Hispanic Catholics in the 1990s added to the community’s diversity, and now its parishioners come from more than 10 countries.

Mission of St. William Church, Murphy
Mission of St. William Church, Murphy1433 Hwy. 64 West, Hayesville
Mass: 4 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. Sunday
The first Mass offered in Hayesville was celebrated on Feb. 6, 1955, in an office above the Hayesville Drugstore by Glenmary Father Joseph Dean. The current 30,000-square-foot church and parish hall was dedicated in 2014. With more than 200 registered families, the Hayesville mission is among the diocese’s largest faith communities.
